NPO, pupils plant trees to ‘green’ Ngwelezana schools

Tree planting drive at Ngwelezana schools

The importance of trees was highlighted when a group of residents planted trees at three schools in Ngwelezana last week.

The programme was focused on schools under Ward 27, which included Phesheya Primary School, Isigisi Primary School and Nongweleza High School.

The group donated and planted 10 trees per school, and the massive donation was made by the City of uMhlathuze’s Parks and Recreation department, represented by Qiniso Nxumalo.

This community project was headed by Green Chapter Foundation and supported by Afrika Tikkun Empangeni Hub and KZN Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development (Yard).

“This programme was about greening schools, and combating climate change. “We all know trees provide oxygen, shade and are beneficial for us, especially because we are surrounded by industry,” said Mpendulo Mbulawa of Green chapter Foundation.
