Marking of matric papers has begun

KZN Education MEC confirms National Senior Certificate Examination was conducted without any irregularities or leaks

The 2024 matric exams officially ended last Thursday with marking already under way.

The KZN MEC for Education, Sipho Hlomuka, expressed his satisfaction with the seamless administration and successful conclusion of the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations.

These ultra-marathon examinations began on 21 October, with a total of 190 452 candidates – 172 433 full-time and 18 019 part-time – with KZN the leading province in terms of candidate numbers.

Hlomuka said teachers demonstrated their unwavering dedication by hosting winter tuition programs to facilitate effective curriculum coverage for teachers and pupils. All schools successfully concluded the tuition programmes by 30 August.

“To ensure the integrity of the marking process, the Department of Education has employed 9 390 markers across 32 marking centres.

“Marking began on Monday,1 December, and will be concluded on Tuesday, 10 December, with marking centres officially closing on Wednesday, 18 December following the return of scripts to district storage facilities,” he said.

“We are pleased to announce that the 2024 National Senior Certificate Examination was conducted without any irregularities or leaks, maintaining its credibility and integrity.”
