Heavy downpours, excessive lightning expected today

Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms issued for KZN's north east

Severe thunderstorms are expected across KZN, including parts of the Zululand region this (Thursday) afternoon.

The weather warning, issued by the SA Weather Service (SAWS), is valid from midday until 11pm and places the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal on a level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms.

“Some of these thunderstorms may become severe and be accompanied by damaging winds, excessive lightning, hail and heavy downpours, which may lead to localised flooding resulting in localised impacts,” warned SAWS.

The severe weather conditions could lead to localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, vehicles and livestock.

Motorists and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution on wet roads as the heavy downpours could lead to flooding of roads, low-lying areas and bridges.
