Storm causes power outage in parts of Mtubatuba

Several areas of Mtubatuba without power owing to recent heavy weather

Eskom has deployed teams to work on power lines in Mtubatuba that were damaged by heavy storms in recent days.

Eskom’s Joyce Zingoni said technicians are working around the clock to repair the faults, but that there is no estimated time of restoration.

The councillor of one of the affected areas in Mtubatuba, KwaMsane township (Ward 6) Mfana Gumede, urged residents to be patient as Eskom works to restore electricity.

Gumede advised residents ask relatives living in nearby areas with power to store their refrigerated goods.

He said the storm caused great infrastructure damage, hence when electricity is restored, sometimes new faults are found.

The councillor said he understands the difficulty endured by residents, but asked them to be patient and added that many areas were affected.

KwaMshaya, kwaBhoboza, St Lucia and Somkhele were among those affected by the days-long power outage, which irked many residents.

On Thursday evening, power was briefly restored, however, it went out again.
