‘Dry January’ takes on new meaning for eSikhaleni residents

2025 begins on sour note for eSikhaleni residents whose taps ran dry at Christmas

The New Year started on a bad note for hundreds of eSikhaleni residents who have endured dry taps for days.

Water issues began for residents of Mzingwenya reserve, as well as parts of the suburb, on Christmas Eve, while other households’ taps ran dry this week.

With no water tankers in sight, residents queue with their buckets and containers to get water from the only running tap, which is situated outside the municipal water building opposite Tisand Technical School.

“It’s the beginning of the year and we have cleaning up to do before going back to work, but it’s impossible without water.

“Our Christmas was even worse without water. We thought it would be sorted out but nothing has happened,” said Muntu Shobede (55).

The affected residents have requested the City of uMhlathuze to provide them with water tankers.
