Nkandla accident death toll rises to 10

Condolences pour in for families of the people killed in the Nkandla taxi crash

Condolences continue to pour in for the families of the people killed in the Nkandla taxi crash last month after two more occupants succumbed to their injuries.

This brings the tally of victims to 10, after one died at Ngwelezana Hospital on Tuesday last week, while the news of the tenth victim was announced on Friday.

The single-vehicle collision occurred in Mandaba when the taxi in which the occupants were travelling overturned and veered down an embankment.

Nkandla acting mayor Nonhlanhla Nzuza said the latest developments were devastating news for the community, the families and friends who lost their loved ones.

“We sympathise with you. We were hoping the accident victims who were hospitalised would make it, but we now face a difficult time as two more members of the community have died,” said Nzuza.

She said one victim was a man from Ward 1 and the other was a woman from Ward 6.

“We are heartbroken as we hoped they would recover in hospital. We ask God to be with their families during this difficult time and give them strength as they navigate through their loss. We pray the whole community is comforted too,” added Nzuza.
