More severe thunderstorms for KZN

Wild and woolly weather not letting up as KZN again placed under level 2 warning for thunderstorms

The SA Weather Service (SAWS) has again placed KwaZulu-Natal on high alert, with a level 2 warning for disruptive thunderstorms this (Wednesday) afternoon.

The warning is in place from 2pm to 9pm today, with the worst-hit region expected to be the north-west of the province.

“Severe thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by heavy downpours, increasing chances of flooding, as well as hail, excessive lightning and strong winds,” said the weather service.

Potential impacts include:

• Localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, vehicles and livestock
• Localised injuries and danger to life owing to lightning
• Localised, short-term disruption to municipal and other essential services
• Localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges
