Traffic disruptions escalated in Empangeni today (Wednesday) following two collisions in quick succession near the Main Road/R102 intersection, causing the right lane towards 5Five Ways to be obstructed, as well as the right lane towards the Rail.

According to a bystander, the initial accident occurred when one vehicle made an abrupt change of lanes, causing the second vehicle to veer off the road onto the pavement, blowing out the front right tyre.

The second incident occurred shortly after a traffic officer had responded to the first accident.

Mounties EMS attended the scene and treated the seriously, but not critically injured occupants before transporting them to hospital for further medical care.
