Seven the perfect number for Philile

“I chose commerce because I want to become the best female chartered accountant in SA,” said Philile Mnqayi, one of KZN’s top achievers for the Class of 2024.

She was speaking to the ZO from the Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, where she was invited to attend Education MEC Siphosihle Hlomuka’s Tuesday announcement of the 2024 matric examination results.

The Nkombose High School pupil from Mapheleni in Mtubatuba obtained distinctions in all seven subjects and said, while she is excited for the future, she is also nervous about the next stage in her life.

“But I am happy that I obtained the best results to be one of the top achievers in the province,” said Philile.

The next stage is pursuing Bachelor of Commerce studies at the University of Johannesburg, a course, she said, she chose to ‘differ’ from her relatives who all are in the field of science.

Philile’s motivation and target was a 97.57% pass mark by a previous top achiever she had seen on social media.

“I was also motivated by my background of poverty. I have always wanted to change it for the better,” said Philile, who lives with her parents and seven siblings.

Her word of advice to the Class of 2025: “Prepare in time for all you wish to achieve”.

“And they must not let their backgrounds or whatever situations make them think they are not worthy of success or achieving great things.

“Nothing is impossible and they should not sleep on their potential which brought them to Grade 12,” encouraged Philile.
