Kosi Bay Fish Market for local co-ops

Fish market established for Kosi Bay co-operatives to sell produce, uplift local economy

In a bid to support the local farming sector, uMhlabuyalingana Municipality recently established the R3-million Kosi Bay Fish Market facility.

Mayor Thembinkosi Khumalo, his executive members and officials from the local economic development (LED) office supplied local co-operatives with working tools last Friday.

Kosi Bay Fishing Poetry and Nyakaza Mazambane both welcomed the donation of a fridge, microwaves, cutlery and furniture to support the trade.

uMhlabuyalingana municipal manager Nkosinathi Myeni urged the community to work with these co-operatives in putting their municipality on the map.

“Another good thing about the fish family business is they are near the Mozambican border, and we are planning to expand this to ensure our local economy grows faster,” said Myeni.

Khumalo congratulated the two co-operatives, which had been on the waiting list for three phases.

“It wasn’t easy but at last their dream has come true. This equipment and facility will assist farmers in sustaining their businesses and uplifting the local economy,” he said.
