Public breathes new life into cemetery
The cemetery in Pongola was almost totally overgrown after heavy December rains
Civil rights organisation AfriForum has been tackling various clean-up programmes in Pongola over the past month, the latest being the renovation of the neglected cemetery.
The resting place for the dead was almost totally overgrown after heavy December rains, with little or no maintenance done since then.

The community came together to support the call of AfriForum’s chair Marilda Schoombee, and close to one hectare of grass was cut and raked, with nearly two tonnes of rubbish removed.
“With the help of the public we will continue with similar initiatives to beautify the town,” said Schoombee.
