Ezemvelo notes rise in day visits

December is peak tourism month, with festive season visitor numbers spiking in 2024 at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife resorts.

Ezemvelo communications manager Musa Mntambo said a 21.6% increase over 2023 was recorded.

A total of 97 037 day and overnight visitors were recorded in December 2024, up from 79 816 in December 2023.

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP) attracted 186 267 visitors, followed by Midmar with 80 748 visitors and Royal Natal with 41 659 visitors.

Occupancy rates dropped by 0.9% in December 2024 – 38.3%, down from 39.2% in December 2023.

A total of 13 992 units were booked during the month.

Mpila resort led the pack in terms of unit occupancy at 71%, followed by Kosi Bay at 62.7% and Hilltop at 51%.
