Social grant beneficiaries urged to replace gold Sassa cards now
Deadline looms for social grant beneficiaries to replace their Sassa gold cards with the new Postbank black cards

Social grant beneficiaries have until 28 February to replace their old Sassa gold cards with the new Postbank black cards.
“After this deadline, gold cards will not function to withdraw cash from ATMs or retailers, and will also not be allowed for transactions such as balance enquiries, printing of statements, or retail purchases as they will be blocked,” reads a joint statement from Sassa and Postbank.
According to Postbank, the process to replace gold cards began in September last year, with thousands of beneficiaries having already changed their cards.
“Please go to your nearest Postbank site, which is mainly located at one of the retailers near you, including Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Usave, and Boxer, and get your Postbank black card to continue transacting,” said Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe.
To get the new card, beneficiaries are required to have a valid South African ID or a temporary ID. No card will be issued without these documents.
Getting the new card is free of charge for all beneficiaries and the card will work at ATMs, retailers’ point of sale machines, and any place that accepts a bank card immediately after being issued.
Postbank has also made it easy for beneficiaries to locate the nearest place in every province where they can collect their Postbank black cards.
All you need to do is:
1. Dial *120*218*3#
2. To continue, reply by pressing 1
3. Reply with the number representing the province you live in
