Residents raise concerns about safety due to a number of non-functioning street lights in the City of uMhlathuze

Plunged into darkness due to non-functioning streetlights, City of uMhlathuze residents are raising concerns about safety as they call for the municipality to fix the problem.

More than 800 streetlights across the city are currently not operational, with the municipality citing stolen electric cables and damaged poles among the reasons.

While the problem is evident in several areas, residents in Arboretum, Richards Bay have flagged multiple streets, including Hardekool and Haakdoringrug, among those affected by the ongoing ‘blackout’…
