WATCH: Fix our roads, communities plead amid spate of serious accidents

Desperate plea for government to fix pothole-riddled roads, which include the badly damaged R34 in Empangeni

Broken roads, reckless drivers and dangerous wet conditions led to a spate of serious accidents last week.

On Saturday alone (22 February), there were two separate incidents, resulting in two deaths.

In the morning, a runner was killed in a hit-and-run on the N2 northbound Mtunzini tollway.

That evening, on the N2 near eNseleni station, a truck allegedly failed to yield for a motorcyclist, who ended up under the truck.

He suffered a fatal head injury and later died in hospital.

Heavy rains contributed to a crash on Monday (24 February) on the R34 between the banana stand and B10 Empangeni bound, leaving a mother in high-care at Ngwelezana Hospital with multiple fractures, while her 14-year-old son suffered a foot and head injury.
