‘Paws’ awhile at SPCA shop
Call for communities to support PAWS Charity Shop as a contribution to the care and well-being of the animals in the SPCA
While not everyone feels called to be a ‘pet parent’, there is no denying that combatting animal cruelty is a necessary full-time job.
At the forefront and leading the troops is the Empangeni SPCA which works tirelessly to ensure animals are treated with dignity; fight for animals’ rights in court, and care for those that have been abandoned. All this without government funding.
While the NPO has numerous fundraising efforts pencilled in for the year – which all help keep its doors open – it is the SPCA PAWS Charity Shop, located upstairs at 5Five Ways Mall, that is its one constant.
Deemed a treasure trove of finds, the shop offers an assortment of pre-loved items at affordable prices ranging from R1 to R500.
These include clothing (adults and children’s), books, puzzles, home décor, kitchenware, accessories, jewellery and assorted pet goods – all at bargain basement prices.
What your support means
By shopping at the PAWS Charity Shop, not only are you buying goods at bargain prices, but each purchase contributes directly to the care and well-being of the animals in the SPCA’s care.
The SPCA is deeply rooted in the sheltering, rehabilitation and adoption of animals, as well as fighting animal cruelty cases in court, and your support of the shop helps the NPO continue making a tangible difference in the lives of abused, neglected and homeless animals.
But it is not only buying from the PAWS Charity Shop that will help the SPCA – donations of second-hand items in resale condition are always welcomed.
In addition to the great deals, the volunteers are the heart and soul of the shop, and it is their dedication that ensures its smooth running.
Anyone with a passion for helping animals and interacting with people can become a valued volunteer by emailing Sandra Cloete at vicechair@empangenispca.co.za
