Public violence matter adjourned with warning

Five EFF members appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrate's Court and were warned not go near the City of uMhlathuze municipal building

Facing charges of public violence, malicious damage to property and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), five accused EFF members appeared at the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday where the matter was postponed.

Currently out on bail of R5 000 each, Mongezi Twala, Sabelo Khubisa, Simphiwe Ndlela, Simo Gumede and Vusimuzi Cele handed themselves over to police in January after facing the three counts.

These involved malicious damage to City of uMhlathuze property in excess of R300 000, inciting public violence, and the assault GBH of a security guard during protest action.

It is believed EFF members went to the municipal building and entered the premises without permission, causing the damage.

While out on bail they were warned not to interfere with any of the complainants or witnesses in the matter, and they should not go near the City of uMhlathuze municipal building.
