WATCH: Dube Village residents block roads over power issues

Plumes of smoke hang over eSikhaleni amid ongoing protest action over electricity shortage

Smoke from burnt tyres and debris is hanging in the air over eSikhaleni as Dube Village residents early this morning (Monday) embarked on protest action over electricity outages in the area.

The ongoing protest action has led to roads being blocked at the eDepho intersection, with no one allowed to enter it exit the township.

According to residents, they have been without power since the transformer servicing their area exploded on 28 December.

A R96 000 penalty was paid to Eskom last month, yet the electricity outage continues.

Ward 14 Councillor Mondli Mthethwa addressed residents, saying the transformer was on the way – but community members are determined to stay at the blocked intersection until the truck carrying the transformer arrives.
