Mtuba man nets croc during fishing expedition

River angler calls for conservation backup after netting crocodile

A regular Sunday morning fishing expedition turned into a crisis of conscience for a Mtubatuba man, who chose to conserve his catch.

Checking his net while fishing in the Hluhluwe River, Dukuduku resident Mbangizwe Mhlongo got the shock of his life when he found he had reeled in a small crocodile.

Choosing conservation over selling the small croc for meat, Mhlongo was advised by Sakhile Khulekani Makhanya, a local school teacher, to contact Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

For any wildlife encounters, including crocodiles, contact your nearest Ezemvelo office or game reserve.

Alternatively, contact the head office on 033 8451997.
