Suspects arrested in police sting operation

Four men accused of the illegal possession of homemade firearms and ammunition appeared at the Hluhluwe Magistrate’s Court recently.

Sphamandla Mhlongo (37), Senzo Khanyile (41), Mbuyiseni Ncanana (39) and Bheki Gumede (45) were all arrested following a sting operation in collaboration with private field rangers.

uMkhanyakude Cluster police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sbusiso Mkhize said, “During the operation, police searched various residences in the Mnqobokazi area in Hluhluwe. Four homemade rifles and several rounds of ammunition were found.”

The men are expected to appear before the same court for a bail application this week.
