Brace for severe Sunday thunderstorms

After being severely hit by destructive weather earlier in the year, Nkandla braces for damaging thunderstorms yet again

Zululanders living in the inland parts of the region should brace for severe Sunday afternoon weather.

This as the SA Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms between midday and midnight.

On the list of affected areas in the region are Nkandla, uMlalazi, Mandeni and Ulundi.

Damaging winds, excessive lighting, hail and heavy downpours can be expected.

Localised flooding is also expected over much of KwaZulu-Natal, except the northeast and extreme northwest.

Potential impacts
* Localised damage to infrastructure
* Localised flooding of susceptible roads
* Potential danger to life owing to lightning
* Power surges due to excessive lightning

The weather service warns residents to take caution or avoid travelling on bridges and roads in low-lying areas as these may be susceptible to flooding; avoid outdoor activities; stay indoors, well clear of windows; shelter pets and cars, and move livestock to safer ground.
