WATCH: Second green mamba catch at Richards Bay home

Local snake catcher sees 'double' after being called out to catch a green mamba for the second time at the same property in Richards Bay

It was a case of returning to the scene of the crime when intrepid snake catcher Peter ‘Daring’ Daniel received an emergency call-out on Thursday.

It was a green mamba alert from the same woman, the same house and even the same tree where he had performed a rescue barely a week before.

It was even the same size, around 1.6m, but this time it was a male.

“But it wasn’t quite that simple to catch this time,” said Peter.

“The worker at the house had seen the snake but it had disappeared by the time the homeowner arrived.

“I decided to go there anyway, because they normally hang around. We searched and couldn’t see it but we could smell it.

“However, it gave itself away when it tried to grab a bird. I eventually got it into a tube after much of a struggle as it had twisted itself; it was extremely aggressive and kept trying to bite me.

“Let’s hope it’s not third time unlucky for this family.”
