Drone technology supports crime fighting in Brackenham
Drone surveillance successfully locates criminal hotspots and informal camps within the greenbelt in Brackenham
Brackenham CPF has intensified their crime prevention efforts by beefing up greenbelt operations in the suburb.
Last week, CPF responders partnered with Hussar Drone Public Safety Support Unit (PSSU) and A&S Security to identify criminal hotspots and informal camps within the greenbelt in Brackenham.

CPF chairperson Loven Singh said, through drone surveillance they were able to successfully locate a camp believed to be occupied by suspected housebreakers.
“There have been numerous cases of theft of copper pipes, clothing from wash lines, and burglaries occurring in the suburbs. However, we were not previously able to locate where the perpetrators were hiding.
“With this intelligence, the CPF will now plan accordingly in collaboration with SAPS and other security companies for future operations.
“Last week’s operation proved to be highly productive, as the CPF now has precise information on the camp’s location, enabling more effective intervention.
“Brackenham CPF would like to thank the Hussar PSSU team for their invaluable assistance and ongoing support.”
Meanwhile, the Hussar PSSU, which was launched in Richards Bay in December, is the brainchild of Hussar Security and Defence Solution director TS Kruger.
The PSSU is designed to provide advanced support to SAPS, the City of uMhlathuze, CPFs and security companies.
It operates in the Alton and CBD areas, and offers mobile support for special operations.
This weekend the unit worked with CPFs in Meerensee and Brackenham, creating an understanding of the paramount importance of synergy between pilots, law enforcement and ground response units for an effective operation.
