WATCH: EFF in Mtubatuba calls for swift arrest of perpetrator during #JusticeForCwecwe march

The EFF in Mtubatuba has added their voice to the thousands of South Africans demanding justice for a 7-year-old rape victim

Under the banner of ‘Justice for Cwecwe’, the EFF in Mtubatuba on Wednesday marched across town to the local police station in solidarity for swift action in the rape of a child (7).

The October 2024 rape, reportedly on the child’s Matatiele school premises, and resultant nationwide outrage has prompted SAPS national commissioner General Fannie Masemola to task the component head of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit to oversee the investigation.

Addressing demonstrators outside Mtubatuba Police Station, EFF Councillor Mandla Shangase called for the swift arrest and harsh punishment of the perpetrator behind the brutal rape, an individual he said showed a lack of conscience for carrying out such a heinous crime against a young child.

The councillor urged demonstrators not turn a blind eye or remain silent when such incidents occur in their respective areas, adding that men should actively play a role in protecting women and children.

“We should be the voice of the voiceless. The pain and and anger of victims should be heard through us,” called Shangase.

On AfriForum’s alleged protection of the school principal, Shangase said this was evidence of the organisation’s ‘racist agenda’.
