Service setback for public as local municipalities underspend grants

uMhlathuze, King Cetshwayo and Mthonjaneni among several KZN municipalities that underspent millions of conditional grants

Already a contentious issue among residents, service delivery in the City of uMhlathuze is set to take a major hit as critical funding is suspended.

This as the local municipality is one of three in the region that collectively underspent more than R52-million of conditional grants.

The city has been hit by National Treasury for returning around R23.5-million in conditional grants meant for the Water Services Infrastructure Grant (WSIG), Integrated National Electrification Programme (INEP), and the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
