Suspects nabbed with R1.5m worth of stolen Eskom property
Five suspects arrested in Ngwelezane, while the sixth was nabbed in the Mtunzini policing precinct
Six suspects are to appear in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with R1.5-million worth of stolen Eskom property.
This after an intelligence-driven operation by members of SAPS’ Operation Vala Umgodi led to the arrest of five suspects who were found in possession of Eskom property on Sunday.
Five suspects were nabbed in Ngwelezane, while further investigations led the police to the Manteneshana area in Makholokholo, in the Mtunzini policing precinct, where the sixth suspect was arrested with more Eskom property.
According to KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, they gathered intelligence about the persons of interest in possession of suspected stolen property, and police tactically approached a house in the Ngwelezane area.
Five suspects were arrested for being in possession of smart meters, copper and other items belonging to the power the utility.
“The property was stolen during a business robbery at a site in Sabhuza reserve in March. The sixth suspect, who was arrested with more Eskom property, was also found in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition,” said Netshiunda.
