Daughter gets jail time for stealing from mom
Richards Bay Magistrate's Court sentences woman who intercepted her mother's banking profile and stole thousands

A woman (34) who stole over R60 000 using her mother’s cellphone banking app will spend two years behind bars.
The Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court last week sentenced Silindile Dlamini to two years’ direct imprisonment.
The matter was investigated by Sergeant LR Mngomezulu from the specialised KZN Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in Richards Bay.

While assisting her 59-year-old mother with cellphone banking, Dlamini intercepted her mother’s banking profile and transferred money to herself.
The acts of fraud occurred from February to September 2024 and were reportedly captured on CCTV.
Thereafter, the complainant discovered her savings balance had plummeted without her knowledge.
She noticed that cash was sent from her current account – without her knowledge – and money moved from her investment to her current account.
The unemployed daughter, who is also a mother of two young children, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Head of the KZN Provincial Commercial Crime Investigation Unit, Lt Colonel VC Pillay welcomed the sentence as a deterrent.
“Fraud cases are rife and have a devastating impact on people’s lives. It is often leaves the victims and their families without funds they have worked hard for,” said Pillay.
“Individuals should be cautious with their banking profiles and keep their personal information secure for their own safety.”
