Sassa grants will not stop in May: Don’t fall for the fake news

SASSA urges grant beneficiaries not to panic and assures grants will be paid May

Social grant payments will be made in May.

This is the assurance given to grant beneficiaries following the circulation of a fake social media post claiming payments will be cancelled if certain documents are not submitted.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has labelled the post as ‘mischievous and incorrect’.

“We urge our beneficiaries not to panic, as no grant will be cancelled.

“We appeal to our beneficiaries to rely only on credible sources of information on our official social media pages.

“Before anyone can share any information pertaining to social grants, they must first verify its authenticity to avoid disseminating false information that may cause anxiety and stress to our beneficiaries,” said Sassa national spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi.

Letsatsi said Sassa reviews only those grants that need to be reviewed at a particular time, and that is communicated to the beneficiaries whose grant is to be reviewed before any action is taken.

“The spread of this fake news on social media platforms is very unfortunate and creates unnecessary panic to our beneficiaries, particularly the vulnerable. We urge everyone to stop sharing them,” he said.
