The provincial transport department said this was a significant decrease compared with the 21 accidents and 21 fatalities recorded in the same period last year.
Speaking to Newzroom Afrika at a roadblock over the Easter weekend, Creecy said, “I am really impressed with KZN because there has been torrential rain there over the past week and, nevertheless, they are one of the provinces where we are seeing a reduction in crashes and fatalities.”
Transport MEC Siboniso Duma praised the smooth roll-out of the Easter Road Safety Campaign across the province, ensuring the safety of motorists and a decrease in road fatalities.
He described the latest developments as historic, congratulating, among others, traffic officers from the Road Traffic Inspectorate, SAPS, Operation Shanela, RTMC, inter-faith leaders, drivers, and visitors to the province for these successes.
