Beloved Empangeni SPCA pup is found

Goofy the Jack Russell-cross who went missing from Empangeni SPCA has been returned home

Goofy, the young Jack Russell cross that has been a resident at Empangeni SPCA for the last seven months, was on Wednesday morning safely reunited with his guardians.

This after he was stolen from the SPCA’s premises on Tuesday.

Just before he went missing, Goofy was at the dip tank while rural dogs were being dipped against parasites – a daily occurrence at the SPCA in its quest to contribute to the health of rural animals.

It was only once the dip tank area had been vacated that they realised Goofy was missing.

The SPCA put out a plea online on Tuesday afternoon, urging anyone with information regarding Goofy’s whereabouts to contact them.

Inspectors were also out searching for Goofy in surrounding areas.

“We got a phone call from a member of the public who said he saw Goofy with a bunch of youngsters,” said Marina Visser, Empangeni SPCA chairperson.

“He recognised the dog, and then they were driving around this [Wednesday] morning and they found Goofy among another pack of dogs, but no person.

“The man took the dog and phoned the SPCA inspector, who collected Goofy.”
