Madadeni rapist gets life in prison

Madadeni Regional Court hands down life sentence to man who raped a 31-year-old woman

A man (41) was recently handed a life sentence for abducting and repeatedly raping a 31-year-old woman in his home.

The sentencing, handed down by the Madadeni Regional Court, related to a December 2023 assault, which occurred in the Flathela area of Osizweni.

On the evening of the offence, the victim was at a local tavern with her friend and her friend’s boyfriend.

At around closing time, she noticed the accused walking around collecting beer bottles.

When the tavern closed, she and her companions left in different directions.

As she was walking home, she heard someone walking behind her and turned to see the accused.

He grabbed her by her hair and told her she was going home with him, before assaulting her.

The accused then dragged her to his house, where he repeatedly raped her. At some point in the early morning, she tried to escape but the accused woke up and raped her again.

He eventually released her, threatening to harm her if she reported him.

The victim ran to a neighbouring house and was later taken to the Thuthuzela Care Centre in Madadeni for assistance.

The accused was subsequently arrested, convicted and sentenced.
