City urges residents to register solar systems

City of uMhlathuze details requirements for registering solar systems, residents urged to comply

With many seeking alternative electricity sources and others going completely off the grid, the City of uMhlathuze has warned residents they must still register their solar energy systems.

This comes amid concerns surrounding requirements for registering Small-Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) systems, with criticism over possible fines or penalties for non-compliance.

According to the regulations, residential owners of SSEG systems must be registered with their local municipality or with Eskom if they are in an Eskom-supplied area.

The SSEG refers to ‘power generation facilities where electricity is generally also consumed. These are mainly solar photovoltaic (PV) systems but also include other technologies’…
