Richards Bay project to help homeless is on the move

Local NPO Hope on These Streets calls for community support as it secures Richards Bay premises to help the homeless

Helping the homeless in the city, NPO Hope on These Streets has confirmed a site has been secured at the ZCBF community park to continue their work.

ZCBF has offered support in allocating a premises for the NPO to open their Community Connection Point, which is a safe place for the homeless to get a meal, wash clothes and conduct general administration such as preparing CVs.

Heading up the project, Pastor Jason Currie said they are in the process of receiving two containers from a generous donor, but funds are still needed to install the infrastructure.

“Once these containers are on-site, we will begin the soup kitchen to help those who have no place to get food,” said Currie.

“There is still a great need for additional resources with the establishment of the structures. We also need plumbing to be connected, as well as funding to install a roof, which is estimated at R200 000.

“We know that once the soup kitchen is operational, it will open the door to many other avenues of work among the homeless.

“It will help us achieve our goal to get our homeless back on their feet and assimilated back into our community.

“We look forward to the future of Hope on These Streets, and invite our community to partner with us as we are a registered NPO with Section 18A.
