Union disturbed by ‘disgusting’ state of Nkonjeni Hospital

Nehawu calls for intervention over state of Nkonjeni Hospital

The National Education, Health & Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) has called for the KZN Department of Health’s immediate intervention at Nkonjeni Hospital.

This follows a mini-picket staged by the union outside the facility yesterday (Wednesday) concerning the cleaning service personnel who have downed tools, leaving the hospital in a ‘disgusting state’, according to the union.

During the memorandum handover, Nehawu Regional Secretary Siyabonga Ndlela said the union observed a high level of arrogance from hospital management, who did not even bother to come and sign the memorandum.

“We picketed for hours outside the premises, and no one came out to listen to us. We have now decided to take our list of demands to the office of the MEC,” said Ndlela.

He revealed that during the site inspection at the hospital, they were appalled by the condition of the facility and the dangers that their members are compelled to work under.
