uMfolozi schoolchildren injured in accident near Vryheid

Seventeen people, including schoolchildren, injured in collision 1.2km outside Vryheid

Seventeen people sustained injuries ranging in everity in a crash 1.2km on the Melmoth road just outside Vryheid yesterday (Sunday) evening.

The collision, which occurred at the intersection of the R33 and R34 at Lakeside Crossing, involved an SUV and a minibus transporting 14 pupils from uMfolozi High School.

The impact resulted in both vehicles overturning.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded promptly, and paramedics provided immediate medical attention to the 17 patients – 11 with serious injuries and six with minor injuries.

All patients were stabilised on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
