KZN shivers as Underberg records -4.2°C in winter cold snap

Temperatures plunge below zero across South Africa as winter tightens grip; Underberg hits -4.2°C, Bethlehem coldest at -5.3°C.

Winter temperatures have truly hit South Africa, with the mercury plunging below the zero Celsius mark in several places.

Coldest in KZN and third coldest town countrywide is Underberg, recording an icy -4.2C this (Saturday) morning.

Coldest in the country, however, is Bethlehem at -5.3C, followed by Fauresmith (-4.2C); slightly warmer than Underberg, at -3.6C, is Aliwal North; -3.5C for Glen College (Bloemfontein); -3.1C for Bloemfontein Airport and Wepener, and -3C on the nose for Upington.

Closer to home, Zululanders can expect a chill in the air in the afternoons and mornings as the lows drop to around 13C this weekend, with sunny skies during the day and highs reaching the mid-20s.
