Bad roads exacerbate water woes in King Cetshwayo District

Local residents forced to fetch water from a nearby river amid water supply issues

Tankers are unable to supply water to certain areas under King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM) as the roads are simply too bad.

Residents in wards 5, 7 and 10 under Mthonjaneni Municipality, and some parts of Nkandla Municipality, claim they have been without water for almost three months.

“We survive by collecting water from the river,” explained Thokozile Dludla of eHlabathini.

“The only response we have received from the local authority is that the water tankers are broken. Others claim the municipality has run out of funds to repair broken water trucks…
