Partial N2 road closure this weekend

Motorists must take note of these road closures affecting the N2 national freeway this weekend

Zululanders considering driving to, or past Durban this weekend should take note of a partial road closure of the N2.

The SA National Roads Agency (Sanral) on Thursday announced that the N2 between the EB Cloete interchange, aka Spaghetti Junction, and Umgeni Road interchange will be closed from 6pm tomorrow (Saturday) until 4am on Monday.

Both the north- and southbound carriageways of the national freeway will be affected.

The M13 between the Essex Terrace interchange (Westwood Mall) and 45th Cutting will also be fully closed to all traffic for the 34-hour duration.

This is to facilitate the demolition of the second half of the old King Cetshwayo Bridge on the M13, which runs over the N2, amid ongoing major roadworks on these main routes.

Ramps joining the N2 northbound from the N3, and ramps joining the N2 southbound from the M19 will also be closed.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes – of which there are several – that would best serve travel to the intended destination.

In a separate road closure, the N2 northbound between the KwaMashu and Mt Edgecombe interchanges will be closed from 7pm tomorrow (Saturday) to 7am on Sunday for the installation of two overhead sign gantries.

Be sure to keep abreast of travel updates and alerts if on the road this weekend.
