The situation has caused disruption and littering in areas such as eSikhaleni, where residents have resorted to illegal dumping, exposing themselves to health risks due to improper waste management.
In its communication, the city said an update on plans for refuse removal will be shared today (Thursday).
“Those plans are subject to the safety of staff, infrastructure and equipment. Therefore, to avoid the risk of littering and vandalism of trolley bins, residents are kindly requested to keep their trolley bins safe on their premises,” the city said.

“The City of uMhlathuze is working hard to resolve strike matters, while at the same time exploring the best practical options for services.”
