Richards Bay feral cat NPO celebrates new milestone
Richards Bay Project Feral Cat (PFC) bringing feral cat populations under control
It was celebrations all round when Project Feral Cat (PFC) sterilised its 6 000th cat since the NPO’s inception in 2017.
Bearing in mind that a single cat can be responsible for producing tens of thousands of kittens in an eight-year period, through sheer determination to bring feral cat populations somewhat under control, PFC has prevented the births of millions of kittens in Richards Bay, Empangeni and surrounding areas.
Headed up by Heilke Ackerman and supported by a swathe of volunteers, Project Feral Cat’s aim is twofold: bringing feral cat populations under control through trapping, neutering and releasing (TNR) them back into their territories; and ensuring they remain healthy.
While sterilisation is the core mandate of the NPO, the volunteers feed many colonies of the sterilised cats – and need the support of the public.
Cat and kitten food donations are welcomed and can be dropped off at Town Square Mall’s Supreme Pets (Petro) or Crazy Pets (John).
