Brrrisk start to weekend in Zululand region

Temperatures plummet across City of uMhlathuze as residents experience first proper winter chill

AS a sweeping cold front hits South Africa, with a possibility of snow in places, including inland KZN, Zululanders woke up to the first significant winter chill this (Saturday) morning.

As recorded by Richards Bay Clean Air Association’s (RBCAA) monitoring stations, temperatures dipped across the City of uMhlathuze, plummeting as low as 7.6 degrees Celsius at the airport in Birdswood.

Next coldest were Arboretum and Brackenham at 8.5 and 8.8 degrees respectively, Harbour West and the Richards Bay CBD recording 9.2 and 9.3 degrees respectively, with a ‘balmy’ 12.2 degrees in eSikhaleni.

Marketgoers to The Market in Felixton are in for a chilly start to the morning’s festivities, as the suburb woke up to 10.5 degrees this morning.

Elsewhere in the country, the City of Cape Town is experiencing severe flooding in places, while both the Eastern and Western capes are under alerts for damaging winds.
