Tributes for Zulu royal family
KZN Premier extends condolences following the passing of uNdlunkulu Thoko Gladys Zulu
Condolences were conveyed by Premier Thami Ntuli on behalf of local government to the Zulu royal family, following the passing of uNdlunkulu Thoko Gladys Zulu.
He also extended his deepest condolences to His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and all who were touched by uNdlunkulu’s life of grace and service.
uNdlunkulu Zulu passed away in the early hours of Friday.
She was the devoted wife of the late Senior Prince Mcwayizeni kaSolomon of Nangiphilile, who served as Regent of the Zulu Nation from 1968 following the passing of King Bhekuzulu, and prior to the coronation of the late King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu in 1971.
“She was not only a pillar within the Zulu royal family, but also a dignified servant of the people, whose work as an educator touched and transformed countless lives. Her wisdom, humility, and moral authority were deeply respected across all sectors of society.”
Ntuli said her legacy of grace and strength have come to be associated with the royal household.
“In her we saw the quiet leadership of a matriarch, the spiritual depth of a devoted believer, and the tireless spirit of a community builder,” he continued.
He noted that she lived a life of service, compassion, and cultural reverence, and left an indelible mark on the royal family and nation at large.
“We draw comfort in knowing that her life was one of purpose and principle. Her legacy will forever remain etched in the hearts of the South African nation,” Ntuli said.
