Weekend adventure for Zululand girl guides at Mkuze Game Reserve

Exciting weekend of learning and skills development for Zululand guides

Zululand’s Girl Guides recently enjoyed an exhilarating adventure on their Rangers Camp at Mkuze Game Reserve.

Girls from Mtubatuba, Hlabisa, Jozini and Ingwavuma all packed their bags for an exciting weekend of learning and skills development under the guidance of camp leader, experienced guider and Indukebandla Primary School teacher, Thoko Ndlovu.

Reflecting on the magical weekend, she said, “Hosting such a camp was an honour and privilege for me. It was a humbling experience to meet all the happy guides and rangers who came from various parts of the region.”

Embracing the environment, the young women were encouraged to apply guide laws six and eight, which state, ‘A guide cares for the earth and living things’ and ‘A guide is brave and cheerful’ respectively.

Besides immersing themselves in the campsite, they enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including a hike and game drive, where they saw the Big 5 and witnessed animals drinking from the dam.

They also spotted turtles, impala, nyala, kudu, wildebeest, giraffe and wild dog.

This was a momentous occasion for the Girl Guides, most of whom come from disadvantaged communities but are taught resilience through their motto.

“The success of the camp is proof that together we can do great things. On behalf of my team, we would like to thank our various stakeholders including the nurses from Mkuze, LifeLine, the Baby Not Now programme, Mkuze SAPS and everyone at Mkuze Game Reserve for making the camp possible,” said Thoko.
