WATCH: Aquadene clinic closure sparks early morning protest

Strong police presence in Richards Bay suburb after fiery Friday morning protest action

The North Central Arterial at the entrance to Aquadene in Richards Bay was the scene of fiery protest action early this (Friday) morning.

Aggrieved residents took to the streets as early as 4am, blocking the road with burning tyres and branches, voicing their anger over the closure of the suburb’s community clinic.

Protesters were dispersed by 6.30am, but a strong police presence remains.

Residents are in talks with ward committee representatives and the ward councillor, as well as City of uMhlathuze representatives.
