WATCH: uMhlathuze heavyweights visit Empangeni mall construction site

2026 opening of Prince Buthelezi Mall in Empangeni remains on track as construction moves ahead with speed

City Mayor Xolani Ngwezi has welcomed progress made in the construction of the Prince Buthelezi Mall in Empangeni.

The mayor led municipal officials and councillors on a walkabout at the site of the mall along the R102 on Wednesday.

The delegation was briefed by the developers, who said they were on track to open by April 2026.

“We are observing with excitement the progress in the development of this project and the level it is currently at,” said Ngwezi.

He further called on co-operation and support among local communities as the mall is expected to not only benefit the city’s economy, but also create much-needed employment.

Meanwhile, the R102 in the vicinity of the mall construction site remains closed until further notice.

This is to allow the complete upgrade of the road leading to the mall’s entrance. Motorists can gain access to Empangeni via the N2 until the upgrade is complete.
