WATCH: Coal truck overturns after collision with car outside Empangeni

3 injured in collision between car and fully-laden coal truck on R34 outside Empangeni

Two women sustained injuries when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a coal truck earlier this morning (Tuesday).

The accident occurred on the R34 about 15km outside Empangeni, towards Melmoth.

Traffic was brought to a standstill as the overturned truck and its lost load littered the road, leaving only the emergency lane open for other vehicles to manoeuvre through.

All services attended the scene, including Road Traffic Inspectorate, City of uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue, and Mounties EMS – whose paramedics treated the injured occupants – and Keith’s Towing for the recovery of the truck.

One of the women sustained serious injuries, the other moderate injuries. Both were transported to hospital for further medical care.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries, and was also transported to hospital for further medical care.
