Search on for ‘Ferdie’ Visser after possible sighting in Richards Bay
Visser is wanted in connection with the 2024 disappearance of Sodwana Bay skipper John 'Matambu' Dercksen
The Richards Bay community is on high alert after a potential sighting of Thomas Frederik ‘Ferdie’ Visser, wanted in connection with the 2024 disappearance of Sodwana Bay skipper John ‘Matambu’ Dercksen, in the CBD.
According to the couple who spotted someone they thought could be Visser at 7.50 on Monday morning, he was seen on foot at the McDonald’s robot, possibly walking towards the taxi rank.

This is as per a Facebook post by Cherie Eilertsen, Matambu’s sister, who has been a driving force behind finding justice for her missing, presumed murdered brother.
According to the report, the man sighted was wearing a cap, red jacket, long pants, was carrying a backpack, and had facial hair.
“They circled around but did not spot him again. No time to take a picture,” said Eilertsen.
“Security has been notified and we are checking for cameras in the area.”
Reward
Meanwhile, the R100k reward posted earlier in the year remains in place.
An anonymous angler offered the reward for any information leading to the arrest of Visser.
Any potential sightings of Visser can be reported, along with a photograph if possible, via WhatsApp to 076 6948570.
Court date
In a separate matter, Visser has been summoned to court on 27 August for a 10-year-old sexual assault charge.
The incident took place in Nelspruit in 2015.
