Serving his second consecutive term, commodore Wikus van der Merwe bore the brunt of the liquid attack as he took the salute on the NSRI flagship Ocean Guardian

The start of the new sailing season was heralded at Zululand Yacht Club (ZYC) on Sunday, with the First Richards Bay Sea Scouts hoisting the flags before a short Blessing of the Waters ceremony.

After this, incoming commodore Wikus van der Merwe received salutes from the flotilla of boats before being bombarded with water balloons, with the party continuing on land after the sail past.
