Richards Bay church leads prayer walk for community change

Senior citizens, youth and community leaders join church in 6km march against drug abuse in Aquadene

Taking a bold leap of faith, Open Door Assembly Church in Aquadene led a prayer walk on Saturday to root out drug use and abuse plaguing communities.

With prayer, resources and tools to combat societal challenges, over 100 community members shared the message of hope and the Gospel.

Led by the youth of Open Door Assembly, the walk saw 25 posters erected at strategic points, while sharing pamphlets on how to tackle other addictions and social ills.

Participants of all ages joined in the 6km walk, from children to senior citizens, including community stalwart Rosemary Hunsley (82).

Leading the march, Quade Goodman called on the community to unite in prayer and fight against drugs, violence and abuse.

“We are grateful to all members of the public who partnered in this venture, and it is through unity that we can effect change in our society,” said
Goodman.

He thanked the participants, volunteers and stakeholders, as well as the Jump Youth Mission, dedicated to providing effective solutions to addiction.

The Durban-based organisation has been running outreach and support groups for over two years, securing premises in KwaMbonambi where they will start services at the end of the month.
