Community raises concern over charcoal plant in KwaMbonambi

An unauthorised charcoal plant in KwaMbonambi has raised grave concerns among residents.

The plant has six charcoal-making pits in asbestos pipes that emit thick smoke into nearby homes and a crèche, causing health issues for many.

“I wake up at 2am – you cannot breathe and the smell is unbearable. They know how toxic it is, but why must the rest of KwaMbonambi suffer?” asked a resident who requested anonymity.
